A £40,000 year ‘transformation lead officer’ is being advertised by Fenland District Council but it will only be on a fixed-term, two-year basis.

The reason, says Fenland Council, is that the key worker is needed “to cover a period of maternity leave”.

One benefit of the job, however, is that it is being advertised as hybrid working which has becoming increasingly fashionable among many employers.

The council’s says it has agreed a policy where it “recognises the need for employees to work flexibly and is committed to optimising the opportunities to incorporate family friendly and flexible working practices where possible.

“The council is committed to widening access to quality services through providing flexible modes of working and service delivery.

“We continue to improve our remote access systems to enable staff to work away from the office in terms of stability, performance, and security.

“All staff that require remote access to corporate systems now have the necessary equipment assigned to them and the appropriate security processes in place”.

Job adverts placed locally and nationally for the 37-hours a week transformational lead remind prospective employees that the council has “recently been nationally recognised by the MJ (Municipal Journal) for workforce transformation, but we want to do more!

“We are now looking to transform and improve across all areas of the organisation.”

Its “transformation programme across the whole organisation” is phase three, following on from two earlier phases that have re-modelled working practices and customer services.

“We are now developing phase 3, which is an organisational wide transformation programme,” the council’s overview and scrutiny was told earlier this year.

“The successes of our new operating model and service mapping processes have given us the confidence and commitment to roll this programme out across the wider organisation.

“The transformation programme will further build on our previous successes and develop objectives under key emerging themes whilst maintaining our unwavering customer focus. The vision for our transformation programme is to ensure our council is fit for the future.”

The temporary transformation lead will head up and manage a team of officers “dedicated to this priority area”.

The advertisement says the post holder will be “reviewing and transforming all our service areas to make them more streamlined, efficient, and accessible.

“Influencing, challenging, and collaborating with all service leads to identify better ways of working.

“Streamlining processes to improve consistency and efficiency across the organisation by simplifying, standardising and automating tasks.

“Improving the customer experience and make it easy for people to interact with the council.

“Developing our technology to enable our customers to self-serve where they can, and support customers who are unable to do this.

“Developing back office integrated technology to assist with efficient ways of working.

“Identifying key performance measures to effectively monitor the progress and realisation of benefits identified as part of service reviews”

The job advertisement adds that, reporting directly to the council’s assistant director lead for transformation, “this role will champion and drive the transformation programme by leading and project managing services reviews”.

Closing date 22 September 2023

Recruitment process will take place week commencing 2 October 2023.
