B&M set for January opening in Ely at former Wilko store

B&M Retail began in 1976 and now operates a chain of over 500 stores

B&M Home Stores – with 11 outlets across Cambridgeshire – will extend that to 12 in the New Year with a new branch opening in Ely. The company – specialising in groceries, furniture, toys – has taken over the former Wilko store at The Cloisters.

It has also applied for a licence to sell alcohol with its application notice to East Cambridgeshire District Council saying they hope for the licence to start on January 19th, 2024.

B&M Retail began in 1976 and now operates a chain of over 500 stores throughout England, Wales, and Scotland.

Nearest branches to Ely at the moment are Chatteris, Newmarket and Cambridge.

Wilko’s Ely branch was among the last of its 400 stores to close. It finally shut on October 8.

After 90 years of trading, it collapsed into administration.
