A Huntingdonshire town will lose its NatWest bank as part of a series of closures announced this week.

The High Street, St Neots, branch is included in a list of 43 locations which are expected to close.

The bank says it follows a trend to online banking like the rest of the country.

The UK’s second-biggest lender said most of its retail banking services can be done online.

And many prefer this, they say, to a trek to a physical branch to do business.

NatWest is not expecting to have to lose many staff because of the changes; most will move to other branches or to work in various parts of the business.

“As with many industries, most of our customers are shifting to mobile and online banking because it is faster and easier for people to manage their financial lives,” a NatWest spokesperson said.

“We understand and recognise that digital solutions aren’t right for everyone or every situation, and that when we close branches, we have to make sure that no-one is left behind.”
