Suspected fuel thieves caught by rural police

Electronic syphoning equipment and 24 empty fuel barrels were found in a van stopped by Cambridgeshire police.

The Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) were on patrol in West Huntingdonshire.

“They saw this van between Sawtry and Hamerton coming down a farm track onto the road,” said a police spokesperson.

“The team stopped the vehicle and searched it and its occupants.

“They were right to do so! In the rear were approx. 24 empty fuel barrels, a vehicle jack and electronic syphoning equipment.”

Two men aged 32 and 30, from the Peterborough area were arrested for going equipped to steal.

The driver was also arrested for driving offences and being wanted on warrant.

Both were taken to Parkside Police Station, Cambridge.

“The van and its contents were seized,” said the spokesperson.

“Our investigation continues.”
