A Peterborough councillor described those responsible for placing litter bins across a busy road as “prize idiots”. Cllr Chris Harper spotted the bins on the Park Farm Way crossing near the bus stop at Stanground, on Sunday.

He says it was only by sheer luck an accident didn’t happen.

“Sometimes I wonder at the absolute stupidity of some people,” he said.

“The prize idiots responsible for this prank might think it funny but according to message received from the police, it almost caused an accident tonight.

“The police moved them and contacted me for help having advised this act is not only highly irresponsible but is also an arrestable offence by causing danger to road users so they would like to speak to those responsible.”

He has invited anyone who knows who is responsible “please let me know in confidence”.

Cllr Harper said: “Some people seriously need to grow up.”

He added: “If only we could have more police presence. I try but ironically we are too low a priority for any attention, the illegal motorbikes along the green wheel being a classic, everyone’s reporting them, but nothing happens.”
