Wisbech born Jody Cundy CBE, a world and paralympic champion, is the 11th celebrity contestant confirmed for the new BBC series of Strictly Come Dancing.

“OMG, this is really happening!” he tweeted this morning after the news was broken on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast.

The BBC described Jody as a “a decorated world and paralympic champion who has represented Great Britain at seven summer Paralympics winning eight gold, one silver and three bronze medals across swimming and cycling events.

Jody said: “Excited to be welcomed into the Strictly family and throw myself head first into the world of ballroom dancing.

“So far away from what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and pushing myself way out of my comfort zone, especially as I’m always last onto the dance floor.

“Can’t wait to get stuck in, bring on the glitter and sequins!”

Jody has maintained a strong connection with Wisbech – he was given the freedom of the town as far back as 2010.

Then a day long parade included visits to six local schools and a civic reception.
